Samsung Series 5 Wi-Fi Chromebook Review

Samsung Series 5 Wi-Fi Chromebook

The Samsung  Series 5 Chromebook has been available to technology lovers since June 2011 through a variety of shops and websites.  You're going to fall for it's charms if you love simplicity, connectivity and new concepts.  It uses cloud computing to store your media and you'll find it easy to see the appeal!

Functional and internet-optimised

Retailing for less than the cost of an iPad, this laptop aims to give you the best value for design.    Appealing and usable features include the 2.8lb/1.3kg weight, generously-sized mousepad, mini-VGA display output and HD webcam.

It comes with an optimised keyboard; it looks conventional but has some extras that make it more functional.  For instance, the removal of the Capslock button and it's replacement, 'Search' button.  Capslock is an anachronism from mechanical typewriters – a Search button is so much more relevant to the 21st century user.  Further internet-surfing buttons include the 'Back', 'Forward', 'Refresh' and 'Switch between windows' keys.

An LCD 12.1” screen appeals to those who wants simplicity without compromising on modernity or portability.  Anti-glare makes it easier to use in direct light and the WXGA 1280x800 resolution ensures a glossy and clear display.

Storage made safe and sharing made easy

As noted above, the Chromebook relies on 'cloud' storage.  Instead of storing your files on your computer, they are stored remotely on a server.  These are then accessible where-ever you have internet access, be it through Wi-Fi or a 3G plan.

Housing your files this way allows smooth access for you and others.   Maybe your family are in Australia or maybe you work from home; with your permission, the files are accessible whether you are at your computer or not.  It even allows for cloud printing.  As long as the printer is cloud-connected, you can print out documents anywhere.

The functionality of this netbook allows for these processes to be swift and niggle-free.  Samsung report start-up times of under 10 seconds; no more need to make a cup of tea whilst waiting for the computer to load!

They also state an 'out-of-box' battery life of 6.5 hours.  Some Amazon Chromebook reviews note 9 or even 10 hours.  Perhaps most appealingly, it uses automatic updates which free you from the maintenance needs of conventional laptops.

Google also heavily promotes the use of web apps for it's daily running; just a quick glance at the store shows apps available for Ebay, Tesco, many daily newspapers and the ever-present Angry Birds.

An appealing mix of modern and easy.

In summary, this laptop is a straight-forward product that removes the nitty-gritty of most computers.  Its operating system is designed for life online and gets rapidly to the point.  This netbook stream-lines your computer needs and makes sharing easier and storage safer.

The cloud-based storage features are particularly useful, providing increased safety and accessibility. Unexpected internal hard-drive damage can be infuriating; Cloud storage means you'll never lose your holiday photos!

You can easily buy it now from Amazon and other online retailers. With the option of Arctic White or Titan Silver cases, the Chromebook complements your lifestyle in more ways than one.
