Acer are making a good name for themselves as providers of cheap but effective laptops and the Acer Aspire 5733 is a great example of what they're aiming for. The Aspire 5733 has a straight-forward design without excessive frills and trumpets that still should function excellently well against simple, modern needs.
Ticks boxes, shares files.
This laptop has all the contemporary basics, wrapped up in a 15 inch laptop setting. It has an Intel Core i3 processor with 6GB of RAM, 2.4GHz of processing speed and 640 GB of storage space. It runs on Windows 7 Home Premium which is accessed with a multi-touch mouse pad that allows you to scroll, flip, rotate and pinch your way through your work.
As mentioned before, the screen measures in at 15.6” and is a HD CineCrystal LED LCD screen with built-in 0.3MP webcam.
You access the internet via either the Ethernet wired connection or Wifi (with wireless range of up to 300m and transfer rate of up to 300Mbps) and get information in and out with a SD card reader, 3 USB ports and audio line in/out.
Finally, this product weighs in at 3.4kg and further memory access can be had through 'clear.fi' – Acer's version of personal, local cloud-style storage. With this, all clear.fi enabled devices on your home network – from laptops to mobile phones – can access the same videos, music, documents and photos with the minimum of fuss.
Positive, responsive, cool.
Online reviews for the Aspire 5733 were positive. It's reported to be a responsive machine that doesn't get too hot and is very functional.
The graphics are considered good for the price and for those amongst us who have to type a lot of data on their laptop, you get a numeric keypad too!
The main drawback noted was connectivity but don't let this get you down. The reason this was reported is that there is no HDMI video output or Bluetooth connectivity with this product.
However, Acer have made a safe gamble in not including these as this product is not designed for the kinds of users who might regularly use them. This is a functional laptop for casual access and Bluetooth/HDMI are less likely to be needed, especially with the clear.fi access method.
For those of you wanting something a bit smaller or bigger, you can find a similar 13 inch laptop or 17 inch laptop within Acer's rather extensive catalogue of models.
This i3 laptop is simple and straight-forward. It's not designed for the gamer crowd and, at 3.4kg, it's not designed for the urban traveller flitting from cafe to cafe either.
What it will do is provide you with online access, a place to hold your media and a comfortable keyboard to keep up-to-date with emails and school-work. Set up correctly, it can also function as a small media hub for the whole home.
For the family with modest but modern computer needs, the Acer Aspire 5733 should do you right. Online reviews across the web are really very happy with it!
